Note damper on the 4 inch pipe exiting the stove. These stoves are not air tight despite a controllable air intake, especially with stove pot cut-outs, so back pressure controlled by the damper allows control over the burn. Without the damper on an open air flow flow stove like this, the stove can blast too fast, causing too much heat to exist the pipe, and your tent and food stay cold even though there is a roaring jet flame coming out the pipe outside. Flames roaring out the pipe also are dangerous, and the sign of most of your gases not being burned in the stove where they belong. Damp down roaring pipe flames immediately. Commercial 4 inch dampers like this are very hard to find now, but with some imagination, home made dampers can be designed.
