"Lunch" of champions! The author's daily staple for winter trekking in deep cold: Cheese pre-sliced at home and wrapped in daily rations, and thawed in bottom of sleeping bag the night before. The rest of the menu is dry, generous with fat (no trans fats), remains soft and chewable at the deepest cold temperatures, and requires no thawing: Walker's Shortbread Pure Butter cookies; Voortman's Blueberry and Raspberry Turnovers; and Nature Valley Crunchy granola bars. All of these can be nibbled in small portions all day, requiring no fire and no extended chilling lunch breaks. One example of many types of fire-less lunch foods that can be nibbled all day, incorporating simple and complex carbs for quick energy, and lots of fat for the long burn.
