I actually need the pole for my Atuk tent, I don't have a bell tent. Any leads to any surplus store that carries these poles would be greatly appreciated. My smaller pole snapped last night in the backyard Angry

I responded in CCR, but again, I have been using a Heavy Duty Painters Pole from Home Depot.  Has worked great for many trips.  BUT did start to slip on the last day of DF last year when we got some heavy snow and the stove was burning hot.  This year I plan on hanging the center of the tent to make MORE room, BUT if I use the pole again I will drill some holes in it, and slip a tent peg in at certain points for adjustability, and added security that it wouldn't slip again.

Campmor sells two 8ft poles online and via their catalog.  1 breaks down into 4 sections and nests inside itself.  The other is 2 sections.  They cost right around $21 us.

If you are in the Twin Cities area of MN Thrifty Outfitters sells the 2 section pole and I am sure their are dealers around North America that sell these as they are made by Eureka.

Good price.

At better hardware stores, you can also find strong industrial grade aluminum tubing in 4 foot lengths, which have stickers which list the size of tube that nests perfectly inside.   A few drill holes and a metal pin of some sort (steel tent peg, eye bolt, clevis pin, etc.), and a small wood base, and you could easily make a bomber adjustable nesting pole system.

Show some pics when you are done!   Smiley

              Hello Jimdiane,
I use a campfire style tent and I do not carry long poles. I made wooden sections with solid steel pins and metal sleeves to the lentgh I need. These can be easily done and hammering the metal to fit the poles is easy when the sections are together.

I have gotten surplus aluminum poles from Ace hardware and camping stores to make tarp poles. I weed out the light ones and only keep the ones of similar or fit together sizes. As HOOP recomended pin them together. I rivet a wire below the connection to hold my clevis pins. Doing this also it easier to line up the holes as the inserted pole can't go to far!
                                 Good Luck

Avid outdoorsman? My son and I snowshoe and winter camp with a four season tent and no stove. When my daughter comes along we drag sleds holding the campfire style tent I made and my military style Yukon stove. We canoe and kayak long trips in the early spring till Thanksgiving. That's my son's and my last float of the canoe season as we celebrate his birthday.  My daughter more than my son loves climbing. My sore neck!
Along with the tent, I've made packs, paddles and the poor man's RV from an 18' boat trailer. It now carries our canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes, camping ger and the TeePee pole

Here is another option.  I saw this quick support rod at Canadian tire, looked very sturdy with support pads at both ends.   It will extend to about 9' and lock in place so you don't have to worry about the rod slipping.
